Self-Portrait series: “Temporary Reflection”
Here’s the brief story behind this new project:
I titled this series “Temporary Reflection” because this is something that I’ll be going through for a short-term, and if all goes well, God willingly, it will all soon pass.
For those of you that don’t know what’s been going on, late September I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which is Cancer that begins in the Lymphatic System. I was supposed to start Chemotherapy 3 months ago, but felt there had to be another way, so I went on a Holistic journey of detoxing, juicing, diet, supplements and exercise. As great as I felt throughout the naturopathic course, and even though everyone around me also felt the diet plan was working, when 2 of my PET Scans were compared over a 2-month period, unfortunately there wasn’t much progress, and so with that, the plan was to start Chemo right away. Although the diet didn’t cure my cancer, it gave me so many other incredible benefits that I can’t wait to share with everyone. It gave me both physical and mental strength that changed my whole attitude about the situation, and a mental clarity that I never had before. Going into chemo, I was a completely different person than if I would’ve started when my mind wasn’t prepared for all the things that were about to change in my life.
As for shaving my head, one of the side effects of my chemo treatment was that I was going to lose all my hair, so I decided to just shave it myself, take control and beat it to it. But how am I reaaaaaallly doing? Well, I had my first Chemo treatment on Dec. 26th and in all honesty, the first week was really, really tough with horrible side effects, but I’m doing better now ![]()
This really is a journey. It’s a course on self-acceptance and learning to love even the hardest minutes of it. There’s honestly so much to be grateful for that makes it easy to not complain
I’m beyond thankful for the incredible support I have around me, friends and family that have been nothing but loving and caring, and have made this so much easier for me 🙏🏻
On this blog, I’ll be writing my whole story of how I found outto the chemo journey, sharing how I’m coping with side effects, my diet, documenting and sharing the process, with the purpose of keeping family & friends up-to-date and hopefully serve as encouragement to anyone going through a similar situation.
Peace, love, and beets!
